Gorleston Rangers Summer Tournament 2017 Report

Gorleston Rangers FC 29th Annual Youth Football Tournament

The tournament was held over the weekend of Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July 2017 at Ormiston Venture Academy, Oriel Avenue, Gorleston.

Two hundred and thirty two teams entered from as far away as Irchester, Kettering, Peterborough, Colchester, Ipswich, Kings Lynn and Thetford, as well as places closer to home like Norwich, Beccles, Lowestoft, Ormesby and Great Yarmouth.

The tournament was once again a great success with 102 teams battling it out on 15 pitches on Saturday and 130 teams battling it out on 16 pitches on Sunday Over 1,600 boys and girls participated in over 800 matches over the weekend.

All of the under 7 and under 8 participants that didn’t reach the finals were presented with GRFC commemorative medals after they’d completed their matches. All of the teams that entered the under 7 (pre-seaon) festival were presented with GRFC commemorative medals after they’d completed their matches. No scores were recorded in this age group.

The Club are very grateful to Jamie and Darren from Norfolk Hire Limited for arranging for a truck to pick up the 5 a side goals and equipment and transporting to the venue, as well as the use of a truck over the week end.

The Club would like to go on record to thank Leigh Drury, Ormiston Venture Academy site manager and his assistant Simon for their assistance over the weekend to ensure that the event ran smoothly. .

Special thanks to Paul Clements for once again for supplying us with a rubbish skip free of charge. This was greatly appreciated.

The Club is looking to expand next season and will be offering opportunities for both boys and girls who wish to play football. We are also recruiting for our mini hoops groups on a Wednesday evening: Group 1 Under 4 & 5 (reception year and year 1) 5-30 to 6-30pm and Group 2 under 5 & 6 ( school year 1 and 2), held at East Norfolk Sixth Form College, Gorleston and our girls’ under 6 to 10 group which trains on a Friday evening 6 to 7pm at East Norfolk Sixth Form College. During the summer months these groups train of the college field, before moving into the sports hall in September for the winter months..

We are currently looking to recruit some more club managers and coaches to run some new teams. The Club will pay for all coaching courses, e.g. National FA coaching courses - level 1, level 2, youth modules, referee’s instruction course, CRB checks etc. In particular we are looking for a manager for an under 7 and 8 team for the forthcoming 2017/18 season.
